I figured these pictures put a fitting beginning and end to the story of our past weekend adventures in traveling 1,800 miles in four days. Last Thursday, I got out of a meeting at the Pentagon around 3, the same time the girls were getting out of school, and by 4:30 we were on the road south headed to Alabama for a weekend of football, a birthday party, and C's introduction to his great-grandmother Irene.

Just after midnight, we rolled into Easley, SC for a quick nap at Kerrie's parent's house and then we were up again by daybreak continuing the trek to Gadsden, AL (the picture above was taken then). By 9:30, we were there and had a great visit with the kid's great-grandmother. A couple of hours later, we were headed two more hours south to Tuscaloosa for the weekend. Saturday brought us some football and Sunday was the birthday party. Because of those pesky things called school and work, we had to roll out pretty quickly after the party ended. We hit the road at 6 PM eastern on Sunday night and rolled into DC 13 short hours later at 7 AM. And then there was some sleeping. Of course, C got his the whole time as shown below.
