Biggest February Snow in DC History

So first the totals. From the back porch, we had a pretty average level of 27 inches with a drift that got to 42 inches. The storm began on Friday afternoon and continued until Saturday night. These measurements were done on Saturday night. On Saturday morning, the draft was around 30 inches and the average was around 17 inches. Just crazy.
Things were fine for us besides the power outage. We hit the grocery store on Thursday and the girls were out of school on Friday. I had to work a bit on Friday but got home before the worst began. And since then (Friday for me, Thursday for the girls) we have been in the house (yes, I'm posting this on Wednesday). We lost power for about 12 hours on Saturday so that wasn't so great but I guess it could have been worse. We had dinner by candlelight after lighting the gas stove with a match and after I stuffed about four coolers with snow and food from the fridge. Otherwise, no trees down or structure issues (lots of collapsed roofs in the area) so we have been pretty lucky. Of course, all these pics were taken before the 6-12 more inches we got yesterday (Tuesday) and today (Wednesday). More on that later. Enjoy.

The back porch. Not ripe for a cookout.

A panoramic out my front door on Sunday morning. Super Sunday indeed!

Sunday morning sunrise. My favorites of the bunch.

No picnics or bench sitting today.

Still see the moon.

The Queen of the World.

Yes . . . . that is my thigh.

K decided if would be easier to crawl than walk.

The snow looked like crystals with the sun hitting it.

Time for a snack.

This is me level with the street sign - and if I'm level with the street sign then you know it is piled high.

Our tunnel . . . and K coming out of it.

Whoever says snow days are vacation days have never done this. Good grief.
